'Gangsta Granny' by David Walliams wins our very own Northern Ireland Children?s Book Award! Print

At a ceremony in Stranmillis College on Wednesday 28th March ‘that poetry bloke’, Craig Bradley entertained some 240 pupils from over 17 schools from across the province as part of the grand finale for this year’s NI Book Awards.

?Could this be the winner?? is the question these participating pupils ask

Rhyme, rhythm and repetition with large dollops of tongue twisters (thank you, Kai Burcombe) and huge helpings of laughter were the order of the day. After a highly non-techy enactment of ITV’s ‘The Chase’ where Year 8 pupil Fergus McMullan took on opponents from across the Province, narrowly missing the 17-egg bonanza prize, the winners of this year’s title were announced. Third place went to ‘Run, Rabbit Run’, by Barbara Mitchelhill, runner up was the ‘Ministry of Pandemonium’ by Chris Westwood and the wonderfully funny yet sad Roald-Dahl like Gangsta Granny was declared the winner of our Northern Ireland Book Award 2012.
