Over 130 pupils from 22 schools and invited guests from across the Province visited RBAI library on Thursday 22nd October 2009 to attend the launch of the first ever children's book award in Northern Ireland. The launch was hosted by 'The 2Steves' the UK's most popular writing double act for young people, specialising in comedy and adventure. Steve Barlow and Steve Skidmore have published over 120 books between them.

 The award has been introduced by jointly our own librarian, Mrs Lindsay and by Mrs Cowdrey from Bangor Grammar School.

 Present at the launch and whole-heartedly supporting the award was local children's author Sarah Wray, who stressed the importance of feedback from the children - her target audience.

 Some pupils had left their homes as early as 5:30am in order to get to the launch on time- enthusiasm which we hope will be maintained for the duration of the award shadowing.
