Reading Club Print

ImageReading is seen as a private activity – and this is its strength but also its weakness. Rectify this and join the reading club to talk about the books you love and hate. ( At the moment this is open only to years 8 and 9)

  • Takes place on Thursday lunch-times
  • Wide range of activities:
    • Hot seating “Who am I?”
    • Reading journey
    • Watch the trailer, read the book, see the film
    • Book title charades
    • Theme reading
    • One sentence summary quiz
    • Murder on the library floor
    • Northern Ireland Book Awards Shadowing
    • Book-based DVDdays
    • Visit to a bookshop to purchase books for the club
    • Participate in the trial of “The Book versus the People”
Who says reading matters?

“Books are for life not just for English lessons” (Education Extra”)

“ Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body” (Richard Steele/ Joseph Addison –both lay claim to this)

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you will go” (Dr Seuss)

“Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best. Inside of a dog, its too dark to read” (Groucho Marx)

” Stories are a bit like an Xray. They show us what happens inside people- not to their blood and bones and spleen but to their hopes and fears and dreams”. (Morris Gleitzman)

“Show me a child who doesn't read, and I'll show you a child who has never been introduced to the right book” ( Paul Jennings )
